Video surveys are run for
a variety of purposes in both existing and new wells. In new wells a video log
is often run to confirm the "as-built" construction of the well, to inspect for
damage such as corrosion, casing breaks, holes, splits, and other deformities.
Surveys are also performed to determine the source of sand or gravel entry or
falling production rates. Video surveys are usually conducted prior to and
after cleaning or repair operations to assess the effectiveness of the
maintenance. Occasionally videos are used to aid in "fishing"
operations for equipment that has fallen into the well. In open
(hard-rock) boreholes a video survey can be used to locate fracture zones which
may produce water.
During a video survey the
down-hole camera is lowered into the well and the image is observed on a video
monitor and simultaneously recorded on up to three VHS cassettes. The depth that
the camera is currently at is superimposed onto the video image and is also
recorded. During the survey the operator may capture still images of
areas of interest like those shown on this page for later viewing on a PC and
printing on the Video Report form. Welenco maintains a permanent archive
copy of the Video Report form, however due to storage space limitations it is
our policy to archive the recorded survey for 30 days except under special
circumstances.
The standard deliverables
for a welenco video survey are as follows: On site, one or two VHS tapes (please
let us know in advance if you need more than one) and a hand written survey
report. Within 5-7 days we provide any additional VHS copies you request (up to
three at no charge), a color printed
Video Survey
Report with still image captures, and a 3.5" floppy or CD (your preference)
with all still image captures in .jpg format. Also we are now able to
transfer surveys to CD ROM or DVD. This is a great idea if you want to
archive your well videos. We can usually fit a 1000' survey on a CD and
much more on DVD. This service is provided for an extra charge but it is
minimal since we do all the work in-house. Click on the link above for
more information about this service.
Welenco operates several
types of down-hole video cameras, each is best suited to certain conditions,
click on the links above to find specifications on each type to assist in
picking the camera that would work best in your scenario.
